JEMIMA JACKMAN
Jemima Biscombe, who was born in Trinidad & Tobago, uses her grandmother’s surname, Jackman, as the brand of her dress collection. Biscombe’s first muse was her grandmother, a dressmaker and the source of her early training. She would then gravitate to the simply designed elasticized tops and high waisted dresses her grandmother made for her throughout her childhood years, while growing up surrounded by country living in the Caribbean. After attending the Academy of Merchandising and Design in Toronto, Biscombe traveled Europe and studied Italian for inspiration, before moving to New York and working for a dress manufacturer in the garment district. Soon after, she pursued her own line and Jemima JACKMAN was born. Her collection of empire waisted dresses are synonymous with femininity and freedom. Simple fluid dresses, classic with an added edge, embodying a young and independent spirit.
